Hi
The Superior Court of Quebec rendered on April 14 its decisions in what some say is the longest trial in Canadian history (I’m quoting the Globe & Mail on this one). I worked on this case when I was at Heenan Blaikie in 1994-95, so it’s not young!
I have yet to read the over 750 pages long judgment of Justice Marie St-Pierre that holds liable then-Coopers & Lybrand for negligently auditing the statements of Castor Holdings Ltd. The judgement, in English, is annexed here and also can be found at:
http://www.jugements.qc.ca/php/decision.php?liste=52755718&doc=572299E66E92BBC70547E72D7989F41DD0E241ECB1DA11E73D3623640DB39407&page=1
Here are a couple of articles reporting on it:
http://www.montrealgazette.com/business/Castor+auditor+found+negligent/4627007/story.html
http://m.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/auditors-negligent-in-castor-holdings-collapse-judge-rules/article1987707/?service=mobile
No surprises here if this decision goes the Quebec Court of Appeal.
Enjoy!
